Five Things to Thrive For as a Cancer Fighter/Survivor.

Living 2016 2

There are many things for cancer fighters and survivors to thrive for in 2016. Here are my Five Things to Thrive For as  Cancer Fighter/Survivor.

1. Continue to do the things you love:

Life is too short to not do the things that you love to do. Whether it be reading a great book or watching a movie or your favorite sport. Find the time to do the things that bring joy to your life. I found when I do the things I enjoy I live a happier life and one that keeps my life balanced no matter how hard times get.

2. Healthy living:

They say everything in moderation is key. While that is somewhat true, being healthy includes taking care of yourself through healthy eating and exercise. How do you expect to feel your best and give your best if you don’t take care of yourself? It doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the foods you like, but just to be aware of what you are eating and how it can impact your health; whether positively and negatively. Another key to healthy living is also learning to laugh and finding humor as a way to get through difficult times. Laughter is great medicine and if we are too stressed it will negatively impact our health. Humor provides the opposite effect and can help us refocus on other non stressful things.

3. Time with others:

What’s a life lived if you’re not spending it with the ones you love? Life is too short to be alone and not with someone to enjoy it with. Whether it’s a friend or a family member; socializing and being with others is quite healthy and is the key to healthy lifestyle. We learn much from others and their experiences and just doing things together brings a sense of worth.

4. Do something new and different:

Life is an adventure, live it up and try something you always wanted to do, but never did. Ever want to go on an extravagant trip, but never took the time to plan for it? Variety is the spice of life and when you realized how short we have on earth; you learn to try new things and step out of our comfort zone. I realized when I’ve stepped out and tried something new and different; it was way more fun than imagined. Fear sometimes is a barrier that holds us back from experiencing our true purpose for ourselves. Don’t be afraid to try something new and different.

5. Stay focused, stay positive, and never give up:

No matter how hard the storms in life are; stay positive, stay focused, and never give up. As a 19 year cancer survivor these are the main things that got me through my fight and it stemmed from my faith and my support network keeping me focused on living and doing whatever it takes to defeat cancer. If it weren’t for these things I may not be alive today. It was difficult at times, but trying to have a positive attitude even during the darkest times helped. I knew that I was meant for much more to the world than just losing a battle at a young age. Stay strong, have faith and never give up. Live for the moment and strive to survive for another day.
